What are lasers for pigmented lesions?

The majority of pigmented lesions are benign and very prevalent. Q-Switched lasers are universally acknowledged as the best tools for safely and successfully treating benign pigmented lesions in the medical world. Uniquely able to create very brief pulses of strong light that are selectively absorbed by treatment-specific pigments in a lesion, multi-wavelength, Q-Switched laser systems with frequency-doubled KTP can cure a variety of skin conditions. Freckles, moles, age spots, cafe-au-lait spots, sunspots, Nevus of Ota, Nevus of Ito, Mongolian spots, and others are prominent examples of pigmented lesions. 
 

Despite some pigmented lesions becoming melanomas, most are benign. We advise that all pigmented lesions be approved for treatment by a medical practitioner (ideally a dermatologist), as pigmented lesion laser treatment is only for cosmetic purposes.

What tools are employed to cure these ailments?

The use of pulsed dye lasers (PDL) to treat vascular lesions like port wine stains is a classic example of therapy. The idea behind the creation of all lasers came from the desire to treat vascular birthmarks in children more effectively. The birthmark's red/blue blood is specifically targeted by the laser's powerful yellow light, which damages these blood vessels and causes the port wine stain to gradually vanish. 

KTP and Q-Switched (QS) Nd:YAG lasers, as well as IPL, are additional devices frequently used to treat vascular and pigmented lesions (Intense Pulsed Light). 
 

Description of the procedure 
 

Due to the special characteristics of laser light, it is possible to injure or destroy specific skin targets while sparing the surrounding tissues. The idea behind all modern lasers and light sources is to selectively destroy certain targets within the skin while causing the least amount of harm to nearby structures. Such harm is caused by picking a light wavelength that, in a relatively brief period of time, absorbs the most energy by the targeted structure. This conceptual innovation has completely changed how many different skin problems are treated. 

Only with the discovery and use of lasers and other light sources and their capacity to cause nearly magical changes in the skin did the ability to target blood vessels, various forms of vascular and pigmented birthmarks, and areas of aberrant pigmentation become a reality.
